Trucker 2056 AI Disclosure
Date: October 11, 2026
Generative AI (GenAI, later referred to simply as AI) has been used in making this game. Below, you can find a full disclosure of how AI was (or was not) used in various aspects of the game. As the use of AI remains a highly sensitive topic in gaming, I consider full disclosure to be the only respectful approach towards gamers. I would also encourage other studios and developers to adopt this practice.
If you don't wish to play games that have used generative AI in their development, I thoroughly respect your choice. I've provided this disclosure so you can make an informed decision about whether to play Trucker 2056. However, I also want to share how I've used AI to encourage good-faith debate about the limits of these technologies and creative ways to use them. Feel free to join the Trucker 2056 Discord community to discuss this further!
1. Art
- Concept art: Not Used (100% Human) — All concept art used for the game has been hand-drawn.
- 2D art and sprites: AI Assisted — Some of the game’s 2D pixel art has been created using a process in which style transfer is applied to photographs with models such as Stable Diffusion and Google Gemini Flash. The photographs are then hand-edited in Photoshop to achieve a retro, 1990s digitized-pixel-art look. AI has also been used for minor retouching of final images. Some of the current placeholder 2D art uses fully AI-generated images/photographs as its source material rather than original photographs. For Early Access, I’m aiming to keep AI-generated placeholders to a maximum of 20%; for the 1.0 release, my target is 0%.
- 3D models & textures: AI Assisted — 3D models and associated textures used as the basis for some of the game’s vehicles have been AI-generated from photographs of hand-built and hand-painted miniatures.
- Animation: AI Assisted — Most of the game’s animation is hand-crafted. Agentic AI has been used to create some of the newer animations and shaders as part of the agentic coding workflow. See the Code section below for further details.
- UI and icons: Not Used (100% Human) — No AI has been used in the creation of the game’s logo, UI, or icons.
2. Audio
Overall Status: Not Used (100% Human)
To my knowledge, no AI has been used to create any of the game’s audio assets, including ambient sounds, sound effects, or the soundtrack. However, as the game uses mostly edited stock audio outside of its soundtrack, I cannot verify this with 100% certainty. If you suspect that any of the game’s audio assets are AI-generated, please contact me at rintakumpu@gmail.com.
3. Writing
- Story: Not Used (100% Human) — No AI or AI-assisted ideation has been used in the creation of the game’s story.
- Dialogue: AI Assisted — AI has been used for proofreading. The changes made have mostly been limited to punctuation and minor edits to non-idiomatic phrases. ChatGPT models have been used mainly for these tasks.
- Lore and flavor: AI Assisted — AI has been used mostly for proof-reading. The corrections applied are mostly limited to punctuation and minor changes relating to non-idiomatic phrases. Some flavor texts contain fully AI-generated placeholders that will eventually be replaced with human-written text. Mainly ChatGPT models have been used for these tasks.
- Item descriptions: AI Assisted — AI has been used for proofreading. The changes made have mostly been limited to punctuation and minor edits to non-idiomatic phrases. ChatGPT models have been used mainly for these tasks.
4. Code
Overall Status: AI Assisted
Development of the game began in early 2023, when generative AI tools were only just becoming useful for coding. As a result, no AI tools were used to create the game’s overall architecture or approximately 90–95% of its features. Earlier in development, I experimented with models from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic to write individual functions. Since late 2025, I’ve made greater use of agentic development, particularly for debugging and generating boilerplate code, and GitHub Copilot is now tightly integrated into my workflow. No “vibe coding” has been used to create the game; all code has been read and verified by a human.
5. Design
- Mechanics: Not Used (100% Human) — No AI or AI-assisted ideation has been used in the creation of any of the game’s mechanics.
- Balance: Not Used (100% Human) — No AI has been used to balance the game.
- Enemy AI: Not Used (100% Human) — Enemy AI uses behavior trees implemented with Beehave. No generative AI has been used to create the enemy AI.
6. Marketing
- Store page copy: AI Assisted — AI has been used for proofreading. The changes made have mostly been limited to punctuation and minor edits to non-idiomatic phrases. ChatGPT models have been used mainly for these tasks.
- Capsule art and screenshots: AI Assisted — AI has been used to assist in the creation of some capsule art and screenshots. See section "Art" above for more details.
- Trailers: Not Used (100% Human) — No AI has been used to create the game’s trailers or gameplay videos. For game art displayed in trailers, see section "Art" above for more details.
- Website: AI Assisted — Website content has been proofread and edited with the assistance of AI tools, primarily ChatGPT models. The changes have mostly been limited to punctuation and minor edits to non-idiomatic phrases. Agentic AI has also been used to assist in generating the website’s design and code.
- Patch notes & player-facing release summaries: AI Assisted — AI has been used for proofreading. The changes made have mostly been limited to punctuation and minor edits to non-idiomatic phrases. ChatGPT models have been used mainly for these tasks.
