The demo of Trucker 2056 was released at the end of May, right on schedule, and is now available on Steam for both Windows and macOS.
In the weeks following the initial release, I’ve shipped a series of patches fixing bugs, resolving animation issues, and adding quality-of-life improvements. Now at its sixth update (D0.1.6), the demo is almost feature complete, meaning it already contains most of the systems and mechanics of the full game, making it a solid foundation for building the rest of the content later this year.
If you haven’t tried it yet, now’s a great time! And while you’re at it, wishlist the game too. If you’ve already played it, all feedback is welcome, either by emailing trucker2056.game@gmail.com or by joining the RoadRunner BBS Discord. Everyone who sends insightful and thorough feedback will be credited as a playtester in the game!

There are still a few more updates coming to the demo to round out the remaining features. These will introduce more quality-of-life options like card sorting, add new animations, implement closeups and inventory for point-and-click segments, and introduce combat events and multi-stage fights into the game.
One additional full side mission is also on the way, which showcases the rest of the game’s features. Steam Cloud Saves will be added too, and all saves are designed to be backwards compatible. So if you enjoy the demo and later join Early Access or buy the final game, you can continue right where you left off.

The final demo update is scheduled to arrive in late July, after which I’m taking August off from the project. Starting September, I’ll be working on the Early Access version full-time. If all goes according to plan, the final demo will already be feature-complete, allowing me to shift focus entirely to plot and game content. The Early Access release is set for November 2025, and barring force majeure disasters, I’m on track to hit that deadline.
If you'd prefer to get future updates like this by email, you can sign up for the Trucker’s Log 2056 newsletter. No spam, only insightful essays and updates about game’s design, upcoming features, Godot development, and the various media influences behind the game from Paul Verhoeven’s anti-fascist satire Starship Troopers to Sid Meier’s Pirates!.
I’ll be publishing devlogs at a leisurely pace leading up to Early Access. If you're into narrative retro games, Godot development, or game design in general, please consider subscribing. You can also follow Trucker 2056 on Bluesky for updates.
See you soon. Until then, keep on truckin’ and remember: we got ourselves a convoy.
Cheers,
Lasse Rintakumpu
